Loan watch

C:WindowsTempphp99AE.tmpThe last week of the loan window was as hectic as expected with hundreds of players coming and going, and that was just at York City. A 6-0 defeat at Portsmouth in the week triggered some frantic activity from manager Jackie McNamara, including the release of David Tutonda to make way for even more youngsters to come in. It led to an improvement of sorts, they only lost 5-1 yesterday, but that's eight losses in a row for them now which equals the club record and they have conceded 21 goals in McNamara's six games in charge. Although it didn't happen for David up there, the York fans seemed to have respect for his efforts and saw him as a player with potential.

Semi Ajayi (pictured) was another player whose loan spell didn't quite work out, in his case it was at AFC Wimbledon, but when the chance to rejoin the Loan Watch family came up again this week he jumped at the chance, even though it meant playing alongside Ben Nugent. In fact, it was the knowledge that Ben was at Crewe that helped Semi make his decision, the pair had played together pre-season for City and Semi was glad to have a familiar face to link up with. It was a great start for him as Crewe beat Oldham 1-0 to finally lift themselves off the bottom of League 1. Semi didn't put a foot wrong and him and Ben even set up the goal, Ajayi's free kick was nodded on by Nugent for Adam King to finish.

King is a Scot on loan from Swansea and so is Ollie McBurnie, who made his debut for Newport yesterday against Luton. He came on after 58 minutes along with Tommy O'Sullivan with the score at 0-0 and almost immediately Tommy set up a goal for McBurnie, the first of a hat-trick for him as Newport won 3-0, their first home league win since March. Jazzi Barnum-Bobb had another good game, the changing of systems between a back three and a back four doesn't seem to faze him at all.

No winners again in the Championship this week as Eoin Doyle couldn't beat Joe Lewis at Craven Cottage in a 1-1 draw between Fulham and Preston. Both players were upstaged by Ross McCormack, who equalised for Fulham with a brilliant free-kick. A 0-0 draw between Wolves and MK Dons saw Adam le Fondre come on in the second half again as Wolves continue to struggle to find a system that accommodates both Adam and Benik Afobe. Tom Adeyemi didn't get on as Leeds lost at QPR.

Deji followed his headed goal against Rochdale in the week with another yesterday as Gillingham drew 2-2 with Anthony Gerrard's Shrewsbury. A delicate flick past a helpless keeper from a hopeful ball into the box, shame it was at the wrong end though. It's been a mixed week for Deji but it's good to see him playing again after his knee injury. Ben Turner, for Coventry, and Alex Revell, for Wigan, both played in draws for their clubs. Leon Barnett and Don Cowie both played for Wigan too.

Boris Becker turned down the chance to fly back to Germany to watch Bayern Munich play a Champions League game in the week, preferring to stay in London to watch AFC Wimbledon play Dagenham and Redbridge instead, as you do. He was rewarded by watching Dagenham park the bus for the entire game and then steal it when Ben Wilson spilled a Jamie Cureton cross into the net. Ben had a better day yesterday as AFC Wimbledon got a 1-1 draw at Orient.

Lierse extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a 1-1 draw at home to Virton on Friday, Etien Velikonja missed a couple of chances to win it in the second half having scored in the first, equalising after a goal from Madagascan international, Zotsara Ranbriambololona.

Another goal for Matt Green at Mansfield this weekend and two for Jon Parkin at Forest Green. If David Tutonda is worried about the effect that an unsuccessful loan spell might have then he needs look no further than Wilfried Zaha, he scored for Palace yesterday in a successful season for him.
