City were grateful to Chesterfields Chris Brandon who blasted a penalty kick high and wide 10 minutes after City had taken the lead.

It was not a good display by the Bluebirds and I feel Chesterfield could have gone on to win if they had taken their chance. It was ther Spirites who looked more like scoring, some comical errors from Neil Alexander twice nearly let Chesterfield in. His confidence was shot after a couple of slips and he was visibly shaken by the first half showing. All credit to Neil though, he produced two excellent saves late on in the game which saved the points for City.

Thorne's goal was a peach. Willie Boland crossed to the back post and Thorne was up and above his marker to head acros the static Muggleton to score what turned out to be the winner.

Apart from the goal Thorne also did will in linking up the play with some good knock downs, Kav and Boland individually played well but as a unit midfield did not click. Layton Maxwell had lost the passion to surge forward and shoot on sight. Earnie was controlled excently by Spirites defender Blatherwick. Prior had one of his better games.

City will feel very lucky to have taken the points. Chesterfield will feel aggrieved they did not get anything from the game. Blatherwick, for his total control of Earnshaw and Brandon who despite his penalty miss was a real livewire, were jointly men of the match.

No time to be dewey eyed over Chesterfield though. Hard facts are we needed the points and we got them.
