Luton. More than just an airport

Luton Town have taken the Championship by storm so far. They sit in third place behind Sheff Utd and Reading and are leaving "big" clubs like Norwich, Ipswich, Wolves and the rest in their wake.

Prior to the season starting many established Championship sides would have been looking to Luton as an easy three points. Well with wins over Crystal Palace, Southampton and Leicester to name a few they are surprising a few people.
From 11 games played they have W6, D3, L2.
Hatters boss Mike Newell is trying to keep his player's feet on the ground.

"It's amazing how people's expectations can change in such a short space of time. Six weeks ago people were saying we would do well to finish in mid-table and consolidate after coming up, but now they're looking ahead at Sheffield United and Reading."

"The players are happy and they're not scared of being near the top. I don't think it'll be a problem for them, but we musn't get carried away."

Luton visit Ninian Park on Saturday safe in the knowledge they have not lost here since 1980, a month or so shy of 25 years ago.

There have been a couple of significant City v Luton fixtures. Anyone remember Cardiff beating Man City in the FA Cup in 1994? Nathan Blake's super goal winning the game for City (goals video's here). Well in the following round Luton came to Ninian Park and spoilt the party. John Hartson was in their side that day.

On Sunday January 30th 2000 Luton Town came to Ninian Park. The Hatters were managed by Lennie Lawrence, a man who a couple of years later became City's manager. Luton won 3 - 1 that day. The following morning the City manager at the time Frank Burrows was sacked. (Click here).

It will not be easy this weekend as City look to secure a home win that could see us close to the play off places and possibly a 5th straight league clean sheet. Something we've not done for a very long time.
