McCormack's cool finish in the first half opened the scoring on a game that ended 2 - 1 to the home side.

Gavin Rae played the last couple of minutes after coming off the bench but it was McCormack that will find himself a new Scottish hero in the morning.

"It's massive for me; it's a bit of a dream come true," McCormack said as he was awarded a bottle of Champagne for his performance.

"First start at Hampden, first goal.

"I've dreamed of that since I was a kid and it was nice that my family and my fiancee was there to see it as well."

Of his first start at Hampden, he added: "It was good. I was a little bit nervous at the end.

"We were kind of hanging on; they brought the big fellow (Armann Smari Bjornsson) on and he won a few flick-ons.

"But I felt overall we deserved it. We created a lot of chances and we could have won with a slightly bigger margin."

Joe Ledley played for Wales as they went down 2 - 0 at home to Germany and out on loan striker Warren Feeney scored the only goal as Northern Ireland pulled off another great win at Windsor Park over Slovenia.

Gabor Gyepes was not used by Hungary in their 3 - 0 win over Malta.
