Managers ahead of Sunderland v City

"We're ahead of the target we set ourselves and, whatever happens at Sunderland, we will still be top," said Jones.

"That's not a bad thing with 15 games gone. But if we want to stay top we have to combat what Derby tried to do, as they came with a formation that tried to stifle us."

On Roy Keane Jones said

"He brought in something like 10 or 11 players when he arrived and he's got a few injuries.

"Roy's only been there five minutes and I think it's going to take him a little bit longer than that to find out what his best team and best formation are. He will only do that when everybody's fit.

"But then Sunderland are in the same process as a lot of clubs in our division, they're readjusting and redesigning their teams and their football clubs."

"The league is littered with ex-players who all want to make a name for themselves as managers.

"What Roy's trying to do is establish himself as a manager and at the moment he seems to be doing pretty well.

"He was a great player and now he's trying to become a great manager, but he'll find out there's a difference between playing and management."

"Different games bring different tests, in Cardiff we've got the league leaders.

"The game will be a gauge for us to see how far we think we've come.

"If people think Cardiff have had a rocky run of late, then I'd like the kind of rocky run they've had the last few games.

"They're top of the table by a few points. We went to Hull on Saturday, bottom of the league and fighting for their life.

"Now we're playing the league leaders and that's great for the players - and great for me.

"I get to pit my wits against a top, top manager. That's what you're in the game for. Hopefully the players are looking forward to it as much as I am.

"It doesn't surprise me to see Cardiff up there at all. Look at the manager they've got, the signings he's made.

"There's obviously a lot of talk with the club looking to make progress with stadiums and what have you, as well. No, it doesn't surprise me one bit.

"Without a doubt Dave Jones is one of the best managers in the division, quality. He's proved that over the years.

"I've been impressed by the way he speaks after games, he seems to carry himself well.

"He's obviously got the team playing for him. Like a lot of teams who seem to do well Cardiff just seem to keep going, there's a never-say-die attitude.

"There's a togetherness about them, there seems to be a spirit within them and, on top of that, they've got good players.

"But we won't be doing anything different because they're top of the table.

"We are aware of what we think their strengths are and you can stop that sometimes... although I think they've got a couple of strengths."
