"This was worse than the Stoke defeat because we missed a host of gilt-edged chances," said Jones.
"We even managed to waste our get-out-of-jail card with that late penalty, but there were too many wasted opportunities and not just by our strikers.
"It was a definite penalty and a free shot at goal but it went the same way as every other goal attempt.
"Coventry were hanging on by their fingertips at times and there were a lot of positives to come out of the game.
"Missed opportunities have cost us dearly but we mustn't forget all the good work that went on during the game.
"We have got to be patient and the fans have to be patient, too. We know we can't keep on playing like that and not score. One day someone is going to take a right spanking here - but we've got to keep believing."
"We played much better in the second half and had enough chances to kill off the game.
"Cardiff are a good side and this is a tough place to come and we were living on the seat of our pants in the first half.
"We got away with that and the penalty right at the end and it is a really good win for us.
"We have options up front and there is good competition for places so I cannot ask for anything more."
