"I gave Neil the option of missing the match but he said he wanted to play. He made great saves in both halves but I don't know how he kept Jon Parkin's effort just after we had taken the lead. Perhaps it should go down as poor finishing."

"It was a hard-earned win and a battle but that is what you have to do. In the second half they threw long balls into the box but we dealt with it very well.

"All we have to do is keep going as we are safe now and only three points off the play-offs but we must keep gathering the points to make it tough for clubs above us.

"It was a bitty game, a scrappy game, from both sides. At this stage of the season sometimes that's what you've got to do and that's what we did.

"It wasn't the best game to watch or to be in to be honest, there was a lot of stops and starts and fouls. There was something like 40 fouls there between us.

"It was always going to be a tough game, they are fighting for their lives as well. So it was important, no matter how you get it, by hook or by crook, you go out and get the three points.

"I think we deserved at least a point, particularly with the second-half chances we made.

"We were second best in the first half but I still cannot believe our performance after the interval didn't bring us at least one goal.

"I think we should have had a penalty instead of a free-kick on the edge of the box and tonight I will watch the video with interest."
