Manager's comments after City's win over Preston

Last updated : 24 February 2007 By Michael Morris

"It was a very important victory for us as we couldn't let Preston move six points clear.

"We have to win our home games to stay in the pack and tonight we needed to show our intentions.

"We started brightly against a good side and once we had taken their hope away we had to make sure they didn't get back into the game. The wide men were always going to be important and the quality of their crosses tonight was very high."

"We let ourselves down in the second half because at the interval we felt we could get back into it.

"We conceded a penalty but at 2-1 after our own penalty, we were still in with a chance.

"We then lost concentration and let a big centre-half come in the far post and in the end we were lucky only to concede four.

"The challenge on Nugent by their keeper should have given us a penalty and it would have been at least a free-kick anywhere else on the field. He had concussion and couldn't play in the second half but a penalty at that stage could have made a lot of difference.

"Cardiff are a very good side and Chopra is probably the best striker in the Championship."
