"It would have needed a bizarre set of results for us not to be safe, but I was more concerned with our performance.

"It required three subs and a change of shape to get it, and to be fair to Gillingham they put on a monumental effort.

"Once we had changed it we kept them in their half and I think we deserved a point, it wasn't a great football match and it would have been soul destroying to lose."

It wasn't a great football match by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a huge effort by Gillingham which was matched all the way by us.

"It's pleasing to get the relegation issue out of the way and now I want to win the last game against QPR."

Gills assistant Ronnie Jepson

"Every game has been massive since we came to the club in December and the situation will be no different in the final game against Nottingham Forest.

"The work ethic and character is there and we must keep concentrating now to get over the finishing line.

"The lads responded well and we just want to see it through. The gaffer has spoken to the lads and we will pick them up and hope to get the required result at Forest.
