"Our defence has coped with two players who have proven Premiership quality.

"They stood up to the challenge and kept them out for the majority of the game so they have to get credit for that.

"Cardiff are very strong in attack and if you give players of the quality of Hasselbaink and Fowler anything they will punish you.

"Although they got one goal I thought we kept them out superbly, especially in the second half.

"Of course it will go on the scoresheet that Hasselbaink scored but the players will learn from that mistake and for 89 minutes I thought we sniffed out the threat."

Dave Jones (who was sent from the touchline by the referee)

"We have big referees come down to this division, and he hasn't put in a big performance.

"It was a decision (the refusal to award City a penalty) which changed the game even though it was only 0-0 at the time.

"I thought we totally dominated and should have won the game and that decision has cost us today.

"I realise he was selected for today's game but I don't know why they are dropping down if they are not performing in the Premier League.

"They should send them into the Sunday morning football leagues if they need to drop down some divisions"

But Jones praised Fowler and Hasselbaink after the pair caused the Barnsley defence a number of problems throughout the afternoon.

He said: "I think they are both starting to get fitter and sharper.

"Both of them are getting games and Jimmy got on the scoresheet again today and it was a good goal for him.

"But strikers don't care how they go in as they hit the net - all goals are good goals.

"They are proven quality and I'm very happy with what they've both done since joining us."
