Mansfield Town 1 - 4 Cardiff City. Match Report

Last updated : 17 January 2018 By Michael Morris

Cardiff City can look forward to entertaining Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the FA Cup fourth round after overcoming a stubborn Mansfield Town, reports BBC Sport.

The Premier League leaders will visit the Welsh capital after the Bluebirds seized the initiative after half time.

The sides were level at the interval after Danny Rose cancelled out Bruno Manga's opener within seconds.

However, Junior Hoilett's brace and Anthony Pilkington set up a visit from Man City on Sunday, January 28.

A crowd of only 6,378 were at the 33,000-capacity Cardiff City Stadium for the original tie, which Cardiff shaded without coming away as the victors.

However, the opposite was true in the first half in the replay at Field Mill, with the Stags on the offensive as they made the early running. Joel Byrom was a whisker away from opening the scoring with a cross-shot that was well held by Neil Etheridge.

However, Cardiff looked a threat on the break and Mansfield had goalkeeper Conrad Logan to thank for keeping out Kenneth Zohore's strike.

However, Logan was left helpless for the opening goal, with his fine save from Zohore's header falling to Manga, who tucked home the rebound.

It was the first goal in just over two hours of football between these two sides, but like London buses there was no time to wait for the next as Steve Evans' side equalised within 60 seconds.

Hayden White was the architect as he whipped in a cross and Danny Rose was able to sweep home, a goal the League Two side had merited.

The hosts were proving stubborn opponents for the Championship side but Cardiff finally exerted control in the second half as their extra quality told.

Hoilett scrambled the ball in at the back post on 66 minutes after Callum Paterson's cross, and Pilkington extended the advantage when the League Two side failed to clear from Loic Damour's enterprising run.

Hoilett's second, his eighth goal of the season, was the icing on the cake for Warnock's side as he thumped home a half-volley from 25-yards.
