Mike Dean was the referee when Cardiff beat Middlesbrough in the 1/4 finals of this terrific cup run. His only other Cardiff game this season was the 2 - 2 draw at Hull last December.
Ironically he was also in charge of an earlier Pompey cup match. Dean took charge of the win for Portsmouth at Preston.
Looking back over time the first trace of Mike Dean and Cardiff City was a 0 - 0 draw at Cambrige in 1999. This was not the famous 8 man 0 - 0. That was later.
Dean is a Premier League referee.
