McCormack crocked as City earn Blackpool point

The first half saw City start with a 4 - 3 - 1 - 2 style formation with McCormack having a free role across the midfield.

City cut out chances and took the lead when Michael Chopra's effort deflected up and over the keeper. City were trying to play Chopra and McCormack in through the channels or from flick ons from Jay Bothroyd.

Disaster struck though for McCormack when he was chasing a ball into a big space on the right hand side. He pulled up with a hamstring injury that saw him stretchered around the ground and down the tunnel.

Chris Burke came on and City kept a similar floating midfield that nearly doubled the lead. Burke's mazy run took him pst the Blackpool defence and as he had just the keeper to beat he clattered into Chopra and the chance was lost. 30 seconds later it was 1 - 1.

City showed too much respect to their hosts and not for the first time in the half, failed to close down and disrupt, leaving Evatt to curle a right footed shot past Marshall.

The home crowd woke up, the atmosphere became far more hostile from the home fans and they carried it into a one way traffic second half.

Wave after wave of Blackpool pressure left City chasing shadows and looking like a a boxer unable to raised a defence. Blackpool though found a resilient and quite superb David Marshall who produced a string of fine saves to deny them a winner.

Cardiff did have chances, Blackpool's effort dipped now and again and City went looking for a winner themselves but all to often they were over-run in midfield, out paced in defence and powerpuff in attack.

Cardiff needed to work with pace and power but it was lethargic and softly softly too often.

It was concerning that McPhail was left to foul constantly as he was caught flat footed and more concerning to see new skipper Mark Hudson completely outpaced by Bret Ormerod, an aging striker who had a cracking game.

Even Jason Euell managed to beat the centre halves but Marshall saved superbly.

Quinn was injured and taken off and Adam Matthews came on and did well.

Ironically it was City who nearly snatched the win with an efforst over the bar for the final action of the game.

Definately a point gained after the second half battering.

Still win our home games, don't lose away will see us OK.

Worryingly though with a game on Tuesday at Plymouth, City have lost McCormack, we are unsure at this stage how injured Quinn is. The bench today had three youngsters on it. There maybe more on Tuesday.

My Cardiff City Man of the Match. David Marshall. Outstanding.
