Mehmet Dalman not taking over Charlton

BBC Sport are reporting that Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman has abandoned his takeover bid to buy Championship rivals Charlton Athletic.

The deal would have seen Dalman leave the Cardiff City Stadium and the role he has held since June 2013.

It is understood he held talks with Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet who has been keen to sell since 2017.

A potential agreement has looked unlikely for some time but BBC Sport Wales has learned negotiations have now ceased completely.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock will be pleased the uncertainty has been removed as he has frequently paid tribute to the close working relationship he has with Dalman.

Charlton were promoted to the Championship via the play-offs, while Cardiff were relegated from the Premier League.
