Moving letter from Sheffield Wednesday

Last updated : 16 March 2006 By Michael Morris
A cheque was handed over for monies raised by City fans for the families of two men who were killed when travelling home from a Wednesday away game.

The family of one of the men wrote to Paul Corkery of the Valley Rams and it reads

Dear Paul,

We are the parents of Shaun, who was one of the lads killed in the tragic accident on their way home from Coventry City, after watching Sheffield Wednesday play there on February 15 th.

We send a massive thankyou to the supporters of Cardiff City football club for their kind donation to both families. As with our club, you have a passionate and fanatical set of followers whose feelings stretch beyond their own club by showing their kindness through this collection.

Shaun was 24 and had everything to live for and was married to Lisa only last year. He took on board a stepson called Brandon (another Wednesdayite) age 7. Three weeks before the accident they had moved into their new home, which they were renovating. Shaun was working all hours to make things right for the family. The saddest part of all this apart from the loss of life is that Shaun and Lisa have an unborn baby daughter (our grand daughter) who will never see her father. She will be constantly reminded of Shauns love and devotion for both the family and Sheffield Wednesday football club. 50% of the money you have collected is to be given to Lisa who informs me it will be saved towards the upbringing of their daughter.

Many thanks Cardiff City fans
You are a credit to your club and Wales.

There's little else I can say after that, just I'd like to add my thanks to Paul, The Rams and the Supporters Club for their gesture. As you can see it meant so much.
