WALES’ FIRST PURPOSE BUILT 5-A-SIDE CENTRE COMES TO CARDIFF

Construction work has begun on Wales’ first purpose built 5-a-side football centre is coming to the Leckwith area of Cardiff. Former pupil of Fitzalan High School and City player David Giles said, “I am delighted that my old school will benefit from this exciting facility and sincerely hope that it will provide a fantastic starting point for future footballers. At last, Cardiff is about to experience a first-class football facility that will encourage serious and recreational players to enjoy the sport."

The £1.25m complex, which is located on Lawrenny Avenue and is to open in late November will have eight floodlit 5-a-side courts, a clubhouse, changing rooms and bar. Players at the centre will benefit from same third generation artificial surfaces as those used by Real Madrid. The centre is the first in Wales to offer the use of third generation surfaces to the public.

A partnership between Fitzalan High School and the Cardiff based company, Gôl Centres will host 5-a-side leagues, one-day tournaments, corporate events, children’s birthday parties and will also be available for block bookings and casual hire.

Gôl Centres director Gwilym Boore said, “Fitzalan High School has a fine football heritage and one of our prime objectives in establishing the centre is to provide a starting point for players who will eventually progress to representing Cardiff City and Wales. However, we are particularly aware that those who play for fun deserve excellent facilities which will also aid strategies designed to encourage exercise amongst the city’s population.”
