New boy 'jumped at chance' to play for Bluebirds

“I jumped at the chance to sign for Cardiff City" said The Bluebirds' latest signing. "I know the gaffer after playing for him at Watford on loan for a season and that was a big factor.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision to join Cardiff and everything was sorted out in five or six days.

“I also believe Cardiff will be up there competing for a top-six finish at least. They finished sixth last season and, with new signings coming in, there is every chance we can push on from there.

“There is a lot of quality in the squad and everything is in place at this club. Look at the stadium and training ground."

Helguson has plenty of experience at Championship level including promotion in 2011 with QPR.

“The Championship is good to play in," he continued. "There are a lot of matches, but I really enjoyed it having played there for Watford and QPR.

“I was promoted from the Championship with Queens Park Rangers and I know it can be tough. It’s really hard to find consistency, but we’ll work hard as a team and do everything we can to maintain a challenge.

“Equally, you never know how things will pan out. Reading didn’t have a good start last season, but they made their run at the right time. The QPR team I was in started the season with an unbeaten run of 19 matches and that was fantastic.

“It is really hard to get out of the Championship because the teams are really even, but we’ll give it everything we have.”
