New dad Koumas fires City into third round

Barely 24 hours later and "dad" was responsible for firing Cardiff into the third round of the Carling Cup.

Koumas started on the bench and only came on the pitch on 72 mins. He was felled on the edge of the box soon after but his claims for a free kick were waved away but on 81 mins Andrea Ferretti, himself a second half sub was taken out after a clever run. A free kick was awarded some 20 yards out and the strike from Koumas was superb. Top corner like a rocket.

That proved to be the winner. Macclesfield were ahead after just 5 mins. Bullock beating the offside trap to slot past Margetson. The rest of the first half was fairly dire. City going close but not really looking like scoring.

City came at Macclesfield from the start of the second half. It only took 6 mins before Joe Ledley fired into the goal after a poor clearance fell at his feet.

City were at realtive ease and did the job needed when Macclesfield attacked. After Koumas' goal the visitors forced some pressure but not like the last two league games and not enough for City to concede.

6 changes were made, in came Margetson, Cox, Parry, Ardley, Lee and Fleetwood. Ferretti and Koumas came off the bench to replace Fleetwood and Parry.

Not the best of performances but another win. Three in a row now, all at home as well. It'll get tought with away games at Millweall and Stoke coming up in four days next week.

The draw for round three of the Carling Cup will take place live on Sky Sports this Saturday.

Two Premiership teams were knocked out tonight. The big shock came at Grimsby who beat Spurs and Gillingham took out Pompey.

Round three is when the top Premiership teams who have been in European action come in. Only 32 teams left in the competition and they include Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd.
