New players unlikely before Saturday

Chairman Peter Ridsdale has not ruled it out but it's more likely to happen by the end of the month rather than the end of the week.

No'1 priority is another striker. That followed by a midfielder.

"We're talking to clubs on a daily basis about potential new signings," Ridsdale told the Western Mail.

"We're looking at bringing in another centre-forward. Dave Jones has said he is keen to add another player as well, but, if that is to happen, there will have to be an appropriate lowering in the current payroll if we're to remain within our budgets.

"We know the type of player we're looking for, but we're not going to be rushed, we have until August 31 when the transfer window closes, so we'll take our time to find the right player.

"If I were put on the spot I would say bringing in anyone new before the Stoke match would be less likely than us actually bringing someone in.

"But the situation is changing all the time so I never rule anything out."
