Nine for McCormack as Addicks see red

McCormack pounced to side foot home a Peter Whittingham rebound in the first half, against the run of play it must be said, before firing a free kick through a very dodgy looking Charlton wall early in the second half.

The free kick was earned by McCormack when he was felled by Charlton defender Semedo. As the last man he was duly red carded. The player had only been on the pitch 6 mins after coming on as a half time sub. At least they wouldn't have needed to wash his kit.

So City 2 up, Charlton down to 10 men. Could we be helped any more? Of course, Kevin Friend booked Mark Hudson twice in as many minutes and the visitors were down to 9 men.

If there was a complaint from the game it was that City had over 20 mins against 9 men and didn't score. They tried, mostly at half pace though as the visitors just sat deep and hoped they would'nt be totally humiliated.

Gavin Rae missed City best effort when he pulled his shot wide when through on goal and not even the appearance of Eddie Johnson in the final minutes could conjour up a goal.

Still I'm not bothered. 3 points are 3 points and it's pleasing to see City 4th in the table. We could have lost that position on Sunday but thanks to Wednesday winning the Sheffield derby we maintained our position.

It's a tight league though, just 3 points cover us in 4th down to Coventry in 15th.
