Joe Mason has started 10 games in the Championship this season and scored five goals

“Joe, I’m sure, is frustrated that he hasn’t started more matches,” said Malky Mackay. “But he is learning all the time and I am excited about his future with Cardiff City.

“Half a dozen clubs have rung asking about Joe, but he is part of my first team squad and we need him here. There is no question – he is staying with us.

“Unfortunately, he has not had as much game time as he would have wanted, but, looking back, he was probably overused last season.

“He did a terrific job during his first season at Championship level and he has a big future with us here in Cardiff.”

Mason made a big impact at this level last season including a Carling Cup final goal at Wembley. He is under contract until 2016.
