No luck in Norfolk. Website reaction

Yesterday was not Cardiff City's day. The limelight was taken by Darren Huckerby. As reported pre match Huckerby was playing his last game for the Canaries before end his loan spell.

Huckerby ran half the length of the field after pouncing on a sloppy pass, weaving and bobbing he turned City inside out before finishing with style past Neil Alexander.

That was the only goal of the first half. City were still in with a chance but that hope faded when Norwich made it 2 - 0 nine minutes into the second half. Huckerby was involved as he assisted Iwan Roberts in a slick move that saw the Welshman slot the ball past a helpless Alexander.

City got back into the game. A Danny Gabbidon free kick was met by Chris Barker and his header across goal was nodded over the keeper by Peter Thorne, his 6th goal in the last 4 games. Incredibly Thorne has now scored in his last 4 games in a row. Earnie has never managed that and John Heyda is trying to find out the last time a City player scored in 4 consecutive matches in the same season. Excl the play off games against Northampton Carl Dale scored in the last 3 regular league games of the 96/97 season and the opening game of the 97/98 season.

According to Dean Hayes's Cardiff City: An A-Z, published in 1998, "George Johnston holds the club record for consecutive scoring when he was on target in six consecutive League matches. His first came from the penalty spot in a 3-2 defeat at Norwich City on August 28, 1965 and ended with two goals, including the winner in a 4-3 victory over Manchester City at Ninian Park on 18 September."

Any hopes of a comeback were dashed as Norwich score twice more. A deflected shot from Fleming wrong footed Alexander in the centre of goal and then Huckerby was given the freedom of Norfolk to waltz ino the box wide left, his cross/shot deflected off Tony Vidmar to beat Alexander for the 4th time, none of which he had and chance of saving. Harshly the goal has been credited as a Vidmar og.

Lennie started the game with a 4 - 3 - 3 formation with Andy Campbell and Gareth Whalley starting the game.

Campbell was replaced by the returning Alan Lee on 60 mins. It was a double substitution as Rhys Weston came on for Gary Croft.

Hopefully next week we will have Graham Kavanagh back. City have struggled in midfield lately with the absence of Kav and the loss of Julian Gray (who played for Palace yesterday).

It's not total disaster, we have dropped to 8th place, only 2 points off 6th place and 3 points off 5th place. Wigan and West Ham moved above us after they both won. A home win against Millwall next is a must. Millwall are 5 points behind City and have not won a game in the last 6 and have only won once away from home all season. Their last 2 games have been 0 - 0 home draws against Ipswich and Norwich, ironically the two teams to have beaten us in recent weeks.

We still have it all to play for. We are exactly half way through the season. 23 games played. We sit 2 points off the play off places. We have players returning from injury and we have the potential to strengthen.

Next weeks Millwall game is live on Sky with a 12:30 kick off. Yesterday it was "Bah Humbug" lets hope next week it's "Merry Christmas".
