Now he has left Cardiff City Andy Campbell is a free agent.

The Middlesbrough born forward could return to his native North East with the Quakers. While he was contracted to Cardiff City they could not hope to come near his wages but now he's looking for employment it's a differnt matter.

"We'll have a chat with him," said Darlo assistant manager Mark Procor.

"Sometimes a return to your home area can re-motivate a player. You are under scrutiny from friends and family, and have something to prove.

"I remember always having an extra edge when I was playing for Boro. You give 100 per cent wherever you are, but in your home area there are more knowing eyes glaring at you, increasing the pressure to produce.

"It could be like that for Andy. He's 26 now and was a £1m player, so he's got something that might be rekindled back on home soil."

Campbell is also linked with a move to Dunfermline in Scotland.
