City are light in that department after the departure of both Darren Purse and Roger Johnson. Ridsdale admitted interest in Motherwell's Paul Quinn but it's the centre of defence that is a priority.

"Our priority right now is a centre-half and we have had an offer accepted," said Cardiff chairman Ridsdale.

"We will be talking to the player today. There has been discussion about Paul Quinn, but our first job is to bring in a central defender."

Charlton's Mark Hudson is believed to be the player in question.
