Oldham reaction and pictures

Over 3500 City fans saw a fine performance from Cardiff City today as the Bluebirds made a superb start to their Nationwide League campaign.

City's team was a surprise to many, Barker playing centre back over Young (who was injured?), and Leo turned out up front instead of Earnshaw.

Team (4-3-3) :

Alexander

Weston Gabbidon Barker Croft

Boland Kavanagh Whalley

Campbell Thorne Leo FW

Subs:
Earnie (on for Campbell)
Collins (on for Thorne)
Legg (on for Whalley)

City opened the scoring on 21 minutes with a superb volleyed finish over the Oldham keeper from Andy Campbell after Gabbidon had flicked on Kavanagh's corner.

Oldham came back strongly in the second half but City's defence kept them at bay, with Cardiff restricted to efforts on the break. One of these paid off in the 84th minute when a cross from Kavanagh was not collected by the Oldham keeper under pressure from the excellent Leo FW, and Earnie was on hand to stroke the ball home.

Oldham scored their goal in the second of seven minutes of injury time after Alexander fluffed a cross.

A great win to start the season away from home, and much to be pleased about in the City performance.

Some pictures below from Boundary Park of City's superb support and a couple of shots of the players. Note the second picture of the crowd was taken about 10 minutes before kick off... those empty seats were soon filled!
