Parry's winner sends Saints marching down

Ramsey keeps them occupied
Aaron Ramsey sent Steve Thompson scampering towards the byline and Thommo managed to square the ball just before it crossed the line and Parry was on hand to fire into the goal.

It wasn't the greatest of games with the blustery and wet conditions making free flowing football a bit tricky.

Cardiff gradually took control of the first half and lapsed later in the game to allowing the visitors too much possession but Loovens and Johnson, supported by Enckelman kept a clean sheet.

Both sides sent efforts high and wide, neither keeper could be said to have been truly tested.

Again Aaron Ramsey impressed, this time playing as right back in the absence of the injured Kevin McNaughton.

The game saw sub appearances from Trevor Sinclair and a late late appearance from Riccy Scimeca.

A crowd of less than 13,000 with 1,000 from Southampton was disappointing. Especially as we have 33,000 fans going to Wembley next week.

For Cardiff the win takes City to 6 points from the play off places. We have games in hand on the teams above us, 2 games on some, 1 game on those close to the play off places. To make the top 6 is unlikely but not impossible. Wins in our next two games are crucial to stay in the promotion hunt.

To be honest though, now we have 55 points we are all but sure of survival in the Championship. I'd settle for that and an FA Cup final appearance.

Next up it's fellow FA Cup semi finalists West Brom. Tuesday night at Ninian Park. Win that one and a few more people might start thinking a play off place is with our reach.
