Goal scorer Peter Whittingham is refusing to get carried away after Cardiff's 1-0 Championship play-off semi-final first-leg win at Leicester.Whittingham's 75th-minute free-kick was his 24th goal of the season, which maintained his status as the division's top scorer.

"Confidence is high and we're happy to get the result," the Bluebirds midfielder told BBC Sport Wales.

"But at the end of the day we know there's still one more game."

Cardiff carry their slender advantage into Wednesday's crucial second leg at the Cardiff City Stadium.

But the Bluebirds will go into the game in confident mood knowing they have already beaten Leicester twice on home soil this season - in the league and FA Cup.

At stake is a place in the play-off final at Wembley against the winners of Blackpool and Nottingham Forest, with Blackpool having taken a 2-1 lead after their first leg at home.

"The players know it's only half-time and there's another game on Wednesday and I'm sure Leicester will come right at us," said former Aston Villa trainee Whittingham.

"But we're not scared of playing anyone at our own place.

"It will be a massive game for us as it will for them... but if they come at us it will probably be better for us because we are a good attacking team.

"We know they are a good team too and they've shown that they can create chances, but if we get a goal hopefully we can go through."

Whittingham brushed aside his sweet finish during Sunday's first leg at the Walkers Stadium, but admitted a goal was needed.

"It was a nice goal for me," he added. "It was a bit frustrating when you're hitting the post and hitting the bar.

"But we've got confidence in our ability at the end of the day and we know we've got some goal scorers in our team and we thought we were going to score sooner or later.

"The lads worked really hard and the keeper [Chris Weale] has made some good saves at the end but I felt we just nudged it and we're just happy with the result."
