Plymouth managers pre match comments

Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Sturrock yesterday franked the vote of confidence he gave his players after their 1-0 home defeat by Chesterfield on Saturday by naming the same starting line-up for the visit of Second Division title-favourites Cardiff to Home Park tonight.

The announcement of the team 24 hours before the game is about as rare a Sturrock tactic as playing three at the back, and a clear indication to players and supporters alike not to overreact to the Pilgrims' first home defeat for 13 months and only their fifth in 43 home league matches under Sturrock.

He said: "When you look at the team, it is near enough the team that took us on the unbeaten 13-month run and the wheels haven't come off overnight. I think there's a right way to lose and a wrong way to lose and I think we lost the right way. We can say that we should have done this and we should have done that, but, if the atti- tude and work-rate hadn't have been there, it would have been worse......Full story
