Terry Burton opened up by speaking about how Dave Jones is coping under the pressure.

"Dave has been a ball of fun. He has not stopped joking and laughing!," quipped Burton.

"No listen, seriously, we are in a results business. The thing about Dave is that he is experienced, he has been there before.

"Probably a lesser manager, with less experience, would have found it very difficult.

"I am not saying he has not found it difficult, mind, it is hard for everyone when you are not winning. But Dave is not one to lie down and take it.

"He looked very carefully at the team he wanted to put out. Having had a spell as manager myself, I know that is very much what you are judged on, that team you put out on a Saturday.

"Against Colchester that team has done Dave proud. We owed the supporters a performance as well and we went out there and showed what we could do."

Whittingham get's City's second
Then on Man of the Match Peter Whittingham, Burton continued.

"Everybody knows Peter has ability. He got the opportunity here to show what he can do and I think he accounted for himself very well.

"Confidence has a major effect on everybody. He does have belief in his own ability, you could say what has been missing is that extra little bit of drive.

"I think here he showed that not only can he get some good passes in, but he tracked back and got some good tackles in as well.

"If he can put the ugly part of the game in and win his challenges, together with the ability he has got, then it would be very hard to leave him out.

"I would think people have been telling him that since he first arrived at Aston Villa when he was 15.

"But he is still young, he has the ability to be a good player and we are all hoping he does it now on a regular basis."

Colchester manager Geraint Williams

"We scored against the run of play but once we conceded the equaliser in the second-half we panicked and fell apart.

"Cardiff played the conditions far better than us and fully deserved to win on their second-half performance.

"Though I was a Cardiff fan as a youngster all I am concentrating on is getting enough points for Colchester so that we remain in the Championship while our new ground is being built."
