Praise for Mark Kennedy

The Republic of Ireland winger, 32, was seen as an old pals signing much like when Kevin Cooper arrived a couple of seasons ago so he now has to prove he's better than just another name on the wage bill.

Kennedy throughout his career has made some big money moves. Four times clubs paid 7 figures for him and his Irish colleague Steve McPhail believes he has plenty to offer.

"Mark is a great lad, a highly-experienced player who has had a tremendous career," said McPhail.

"He has a sweet left foot and he will be a major asset to Cardiff City.

"Things didn't go too well for Mark at Crystal Palace last season, but he remains a quality player and can only help towards our big priority this season - a push for promotion."

Another left footer? Already we have Yourself, Whittingham, Ledley, Parry.

"That won't hurt at all," McPhail continued. "There is a lot of ability throughout the team.

"The gaffer is working to bring new players in and all that is needed now is a little more strength in depth."

And Dave Jones himself thinks his former player from their Wolves days together will have an impact this season..

"Sparky will be an important player for Cardiff this season," said Jones.

"I have known him a long time and he has never let me down. He can play in a number of positions, his attitude is spot-on and he is a talented player."
