Purse ready to replace Loovens

The last time he ran out to start a match was the 0 - 2 home defeat against Charlton on December 4th. Since then he's had three appearances off the bench (all in December) and is will now fill Glen Lovens boots at least for the next two matches whie the Dutchman is suspended.

Purse has kept himself fit whjile he's been on the bench and he came through 90 mins against New port in midweek, ironically alongside Loovens who was playing because he is missing these games).

Now he gets his chance.

"It was disappointing for Glenn that he should pick up a booking that will see him out for two games now," said Purse.

"But it is a squad game and, hopefully, I will get the chance to get back in, although you can never assume anything in football.

"Assuming the gaffer picks me for Sheffield Wednesday, then I will have to put pressure on him to see that he keeps me in the side.

"I know the gaffer has said that I've been on to him for weeks that I'm ready to come back in. But I'm paid to play football and that is what I really want to do.

"I don't like sitting on the bench during games, but circumstances mean that some times you have to.

"I just hope my attitude shows that I'm keen to play my part because I want first-team football.

"I have been keeping myself really fit, been working hard in training so I'm ready for the call when it comes."
