With Glenn Loovens out for the season it was hoped Purse would be back to partner Johnson.
'I won't be fit for Saturday, but I'm not ruling anything else out," Purse told the Echo.
'I have a part to play this season and I will get back as quickly as possible.
'The pity is that before I was injured I felt I was playing some of my best football.'
Dave Jones is likely to play Joe Ledley and Chris Gunter as the two full backs.
