QPR v Cardiff. BBC preview

Last updated : 26 November 2010 By BBC Sport

Tommy Smith is back after missing out against Preston because Rangers delayed renewing his latest one-month loan deal so that he is available over Christmas.

Cardiff City will assess Lee Naylor (groin) and winger Chris Burke (thigh).

Stephen McPhail is among several players who have been affected by a virus, but he should be able to play.

MATCH PREVIEW

In 2003 these clubs battled for promotion from the third tier, with Cardiff winning a play-off final through Andy Campbell's extra-time goal. Now they occupy the top two places in the Championship and are battling for promotion to the top flight.

Leaders Queens Park Rangers are the Football League's only unbeaten team and are closing on the club record of 20 matches without defeat. They face arguably the biggest threat to that record so far in the shape of second-placed Cardiff, who have won seven of their last 10 league matches and are unbeaten in five away games.

These sides are the Championship's top scorers, having both netted 33 times this season. But QPR also boast the League's best defensive record, having conceded only eight goals and kept an unrivalled 11 clean sheets.

That defence is likely to be tested by the likes of Craig Bellamy and Jay Bothroyd, while Rangers have their own matchwinner in the shape of Adel Taarabt and will go five points clear at the top of the table if they are victorious on Saturday.
