Return of the Mahon? Not this weekend

Mahon was at City on a three month loan last season but the period ended before the play offs and Mahon missed the last couple of games he was eligable for as Lennie built the side he wanted for the end of season lottery.

Of course history shows Lennie got it right as we are now reaping the rewards of the play off victory.

Mahon reflected on his departure last April and his missing out on the play off final

"I was bitterly disappointed," he told the Echo

"I would have loved to be part of things at the Millennium Stadium."

Instead Mahon was back at Blackburn. Now he's on loan at Portman Rd.

Mahon has been out for the last 6 games with a bug that has laid him low. He returned to action for Ipswich reserves this week but will not be selected this weekend.

"Alan won't be in the squad for the Cardiff game," Joe Royle told the official Ipswich website.

"He needs rest after the virus and is lacking fitness but we are looking at him returning for the game at Forest next week."

The midfielder, on loan from Blackburn for three months, also spent a loan spell at Cardiff last term.

Mahon scored a couple of goals in his time at Ninian Park, a winning goal against Blackpool and a cracker in our 4 - 0 win at Wycombe.

He is now with Joe Royle at Ipswich thanks to Lennie. Royle looked to Lawrence for advice before taking the Blackburn player.
