Rhys Weston extends his contract

Rhys Weston has signed a new 4 year contract with Cardiff City and has an option for another year as well. Rhys follows Daniel Gabbidon who has extended his contract and they are set to be followed by Rob Earnshaw, who is looking to extend his current 4 year deal and goalkeeper Neil Alexander.

Sam Hammam told the Echo

"As long as our new stadium is in focus, and I think it will happen, we must keep our key young players. These are among our young players, who are in a no-go zone - they will not leaving the club."

It's reassuring news from Sam that a, he thinks the stadium is still on course and b, he is tying down the players that are the future of Cardiff City.

Rob Earnshaw and Daniel Gabbidon have both made full international debuts in the last few weeks, with Earnie scoring the winner for Wales against Germany at the Millennium Stadium. Neil Alexander has just returned from Korea and Hong Kong with the Scotland squad, unfortunately he missed out on getting an appearance but was on the bench for three internationals. Rhys Weston already has one Wales cap under his belt and has been in the last couple of squads that Mark Hughes has put together.

With all the bad publicity surrounding the club in the last few weeks it's good to see some more encouraging news.
