Riccy Scimeca hangs up his boots

Scimeca came back into the City side and played 90 mins in the win over Preston and then 45 mins in the 2 - 0 victory over his former club W.B.A. but a groin injury that required surgery this week has made him make the tough decision to call it a day.

"There comes a time when you have to call a halt," he told the official website. "Whatever the temptation to go on, and to try again, you can't ignore what your body is telling you. I've had a good career - it's been great. I feel it's better to be grateful for that rather than think about my regrets about not carrying on as a player. Facing the lads and telling them I was finishing was one of the hardest things I have done. I welled up a little bit, but that's to be expected.

The full comments from Riccy can be found here.

We wish him well in the future.

Scimeca is speaking to the guys on the Cardiff City Phone In on GTFM on Friday.
