Sam's £1m bet

Put up or shut up
Sam issued his strongest statement yet on the futures of the three Welsh internationals. He is furious at suggestions that the players will be sold in January.

"Even the suggestion that such players might leave is an insult to the whole country and what we are trying to do in Cardiff," Hammam told the Western Mail. "Even suggesting a figure, whether it's £5 or £50m, is insulting."

Hammam would not say if any approaches had been made for the players. But he threw down the gauntlet to any individual or company who thought any one of the players would be sold by offereing a £1m bet.

"The message is put up or shut up. We don't want cheap talk - if anybody really thinks Gabbidon, Earnie or Weston will go put your money on the table."

Sam continued to say that the only players to leave Cardiff City will be the ones the club do not believe will make it at Premiership level.

Sam did say he would only speak to Spurs, not about selling Daniel Gabbidon, but about buying Simon Davies.

"Somebody suggested Spurs are after Danny Gabbidon, but the point is not Spurs' interest in our players. What the heck is Simon Davies doing at Spurs and not serving his country. We are still too weak now while we are still in Division Two, but it's not a question of whether Danny Gabbidon will be staying at Cardiff City. He will. But once we muster the fans in our new stadium we will be calling Simon Davies on national duty."
