Scimeca: Sad to see him go

Last updated : 18 December 2009 By Michael Morris

Injury has blighted the last couple of years and when he finally made it back to first team action this month he lasted just a game and a half (both City victories) before breaking down again.

Here are some of the testimonials to Riccy Scimeca.

"We are saying goodbye to a great professional and one of the nicest men in football," said City boss Dave Jones.

"It's been a tough decision for him to take and we wish Riccy, his wife Laura and their family all the very best for the future."

and from the messageboard

All the best Riccy.

All the best for the future Riccy! thumbup Ayatollah

Devastated :-( He was fantastic in his time for us and was just starting to make a great comeback. Great player and seemed a knowledgeable bloke so would love to see him back as a coach or something. All the best to him and his family Ayatollah thumbup

Riccy - bow Ayatollah

Sad. Top professional. I wish him and his family well.

I'm really sorry that you've had to retire as, yet again, you made an amazing difference to our midfield. All the best to you and thank you for the good times.

Very sad to hear this. Good luck Riccy, you did us proud.

All the best Riccy, it's a shame you've suffered with these injuries as I'm sure we would have seen even more of the quality you've offered as a player. When you have played you've always done well for us and I thank you for that. All the best with whatever you choose to do Ayatollah

Sad to read, but not really unexpected. At least it was good to see Ricky put in a fine performance against Preston and then contribute to our best win of the season so far before he went - best of luck to him in the future.

Gutted about this. Was looking forward to seeing him play more games this season. Wish him all the best for the future Ayatollah

Thanks for the memories! You'll be sadly missed.
