Severnside derby. Match preview

With a 15 and 12 point gap respectively over the West Midland clubs City can't afford to start dropping many more points if they want to maintain a serious challenge.

Yes City have games in hand, and before the top two play again City will have played twice, but it's points that matter now.

City go to Ashton Gate today hoping to have both Jay Bothroyd and Kevin McNaughton back in the starting line up. There will be a new keeper as well, Stuart Taylor, on loan from Villa is set to make his debut after Dimi was "injured" (dropped) after his clanger at Norwich in midweek.

For the fans it's a derby match, rivalry between the teams goes back a long way. For the boss it's another game where getting a victory is what matters.

"Every game we play is a big game at this time of the season. I don't distinguish between playing at Bristol or at Norwich as any different," Dave Jones told the club's official website.

"I think it is more something for the fans as a local rivalry across the bridge.

"It doesn't affect us. We know we are going to play a side that are good at home. But we have been doing well ourselves. We are trying to approach it in that manner."

Bristol City have Cardiff fans favourite Lee Trundle available after a loan spell at Leeds Utd.

After Saturday's results City are now 7th in the table. A point will see Cardiff back into the play off spots at the expense of Preston. A win and City will be 5th. Defeat though for Cardiff will allow Bristol City to jump 3 places into 6th.

There are still many twists and turns to come, City after today have four home games on the bounce. But we really need to do a job today at Ashton Gate before the visits of Watford, Sheff Utd, Swansea and Derby.

So come on City, Brian Clark and the late Ronnie Bird scored the goals back in August 1969, who will step up to the plate today and bring the points home from over the bridge.
