Smug. City 3 - 1 Stoke. Website reaction

I was brought up this week by a reader who disagreed that we owed one to Stoke. His very valid comments said that Stoke did us a favour by beating us in the play offs as it gave us the strength to get promotion last season and to be a stronger team for it.

In hindsight he's probably right but where I will stand my ground is that we needed to put the Potters in their place. The play off win at Ninian Park was a huge fillip for Stoke and we needed to end their joy at the first chance and we did that today.

We had been perceived as arrogant and cocky by the Stoke fans in the last week. They thought it OK to post some of the most offensive tripe on their websites and then laughed it off as a joke and said we had no sense of humour. Some very strange minds in Stoke.

I felt Cardiff were in control for most of the game today. Stoke had a go, I'll give them that. They were not afraid to attack and while they never really tested Alexander they contributed to a good game.

City had Ed de Goey in a spin as he was the busier of the keepers. He was helpless though as Earnie ran through onto a John Robinson knockdown. Earnie's first touch was with his head, his second touch was a volley from 25 yards that fizzed into the goal.

Half time it was 1 - 0 to Cardiff with the game looking an easy win. Stoke though got themsleves back into the game. Kriss Commons beat two men out wide stepped around Kav to hammer home the goal that spoilt a potential 6 game run of home league clean sheets.

It did not take long though for Robinson and Earnie to combine again. This time they broke at speed from a Stoke corner. Robbo played Earnie in and the maestro slotted the ball past de Goey to make it 2 - 1.

Daniel Gabbidon prepared for his trip, with Earnshaw, to Moscow with a goal for himself. Vidmar won the ball from a Kav corner and Gabbidion was able to spin in the box and fire home.

A big win today. 6 games unbeaten, 8th in the table, 1 point from the play offs.

Believe me, we are here on merit and not luck.

As I say revenge is a strong word but today was satisfying. I will wear my smug smile all weekend.
