The Cardiff City star offered to quit because Bellamy will be unable to be a Welsh international ever-present as he manages his long-standing knee injury.
James Collins and Ashley Williams and Fulham midfielder Simon Davies, who Speed has asked to come out of Wales retirement, are leading candidates.
"I've accepted Craig's offer as that is the sensible way to go," said Speed.
