Sponsorship confusion over Thorne closure

Last updated : 10 September 2002 By Michael Morris
City's shirt sponsor and local business The Ken Thorne Group has mysteriously closed all it's offices and showrooms.

Rumours are bound that the group are in financial difficulty and that a receiver is set to be appointed but there has been no statement yet from Ken Thorne himself. That is due later today. Staff and customers were shocked to find the dealerships closed on Saturday morning with a sign on the door saying the businesses were no longer open.

Many hundreds of staff and customers alike have been left totally confused and worried over payments due and cars that have been ordered.

For Cardiff City it throws up another problem. City's shirts bear the Ken Thorne logo. It's uncertain whether Ken Thorne has actually paid any of the money promised to the club, reported to be a 6 figure deal based on promotion, but now City have thousands of replica shirts showing the name of the apparant defunct group. It's been suggested that City will wear plain shirts at Boston tomorrow evening as the search for a new sponsor begins.
