Stadium: A cause for concern or scaremongering?

RUSSELL Goodway warned today that backers may pull out of the £100m Cardiff City stadium development - because of delays at Cardiff council following the elections.

The former Labour council leader believes there may be only days left to ensure the scheme goes ahead - and a deal between the authority and Sam Hammam must be signed before the summer recess.

Property giants Capital and Regional were named earlier this month as the developers of the retail park, which will help fund the 30,000-seater stadium at Leckwith.

In an exclusive interview with the Echo, Mr Goodway said: "Business can't hang around to make investment decisions because they are not necessarily masters in their own arenas.

"They have shareholders to answer to. I am concerned about the Cardiff City deal. It is not Sam being impatient, wanting to get on with it but the problem for him is his backers who are going to invest something like £60m.
