PLANS for a new 30,000-seater stadium for Cardiff City FC are expected to receive a boost today, with approval for revised planning consents on the retail park which will part finance the project.

Cardiff County Council's planning committee are being recommended to allow changes to the existing planning permissions, which would clear the way for Matalan, Asda Living and American warehouse giant Costco to open for business at the retail park, adjacent to the stadium.

Although the retail element of the scheme is being opposed by some traders in Cardiff city centre, revised planning approvals will bring the £100m project a step closer to reality.

The Costco outlet alone, at 135,000 sq ft, would take up a third of the retail space.

Flamboyant chairman of Cardiff City Sam Hamman and his executive team have until April 25 to convince the council of the financial viability of the project - which will hinge on demon- strating they can raise the multi- million-pound shortfall to finance the new stadium.
