The three month council deadline for Cardiff City to prove the financial viability of the new stadium has been extended by two months to May 31st.

Sam Hammam and Council leader Rodney Berman were both pleased at the news

'I am delighted at this news of the extension recommended by the council," said Hammam, and I am totally confident that the business plan will satisfy any outstanding issues. I now look forward to the new stadium becoming a reality.'

Mr Berman said

'It's fantastic news that things are moving forward.

'We shouldn't underestimate how far we have come with this project.

'It is something that has been talked about for a long time and we are finally at the point where the club is providing us with very robust and sound financial information.

'That is very good news.'

The club's business plan has been submitted after being assested by Grant Thornton. Now the council and their consultants, Deloittes, are looking at the plan. One of the pre-conditions is a requirement for the club to demonstrate that it is financially strong enough to see the project through to completion without further financial assistance from the council.

The council's decision to offer the extra time (which will be confirmed today) is a sign that they are confident the plan can prove to Deloittes that it is viable. Building work will hopefully start in September.
