Steve Bruce on Cardiff City

Can we go now? Steve Bruce watches the clock as his Blues side were beaten by Cardiff City.
If there's one place that you wouldn't want to be a manger it's in the West Midlands. The collective moaning and groaning from Wolves, W.B.A and Birmingham City supporters must make any manager question his sanity to take the flak they have to endure when things are not going so well.

W.B.A. didn't manage to get to 10 games before Bryan Robson was sacked. Steve Bruce is under constant pressure despite his team being 5 points from the top (West Brom are only 7 points away from Cardiff). We didn't do Mick McCarthy's cause much good when we beat Wolves 4 - 0 in our last game.

At the start of this week Bruce was talking about Cardiff City. I'm not sure of the exact context of the situation when Bruce gave the interview but I would imagine he was being put under pressure to explain why the mighty Birmingham City were trailing little Cardiff City. Hopefully after the weekend he'll need a bigger abacus to count the points difference between us.

"They have done very, very well. All credit to them," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"However, it's October now. Are Cardiff going to be there at the end of March? Who knows, they might be. One thing Cardiff have been is pretty settled.

"And it's never going to be easy for any team to play at Ninian Park. It is a very intimidating atmosphere, the crowd are right behind them and they're experiencing that feelgood factor we had when we went on that unbeaten sequence to promotion, and in the first couple of seasons in the Premiership.

"They have done exceptionally well and they deservedly beat us down there. But can they last the pace? I know for a fact that we are capable of going on a run and that we will get better.

"At the moment, we are there or thereabouts - but you would think it's crisis time!" added Bruce, referring to the pressure on Blues from expectant and demanding fans.

"There are seven-and-a-half months left of the season - we've just scratched the surface."
