Stoke v Cardiff City. Match preview

Last updated : 02 February 2008 By Michael Morris
It's a 12:30 start with City looking to move into the play off places. For a few hours at least.

Dave Jones is likely to have two decisions to make regarding the team. Does he bring Steve McPhail back in to replace Aaron Ramsey and there's also the keeping position. Michael Oakes took a heavy knock to the head last Tuesday and was replaced during the game by Peter Enckleman.

Stoke City have some new faces in their squad. They have brought in 6 new players in January.

Ryan Shawcross, Leon Cort, Andy Griffin, Danny Pugh, Glenn Whelan and Paul Gallagher are all in contention.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis is desperate to recover from a midweek defeat,

"This is a massive game for both clubs. There is no good in trying to play it down because we all know what is at stake," he said.

"I was born in Newport and it would be fantastic for Cardiff to do well. I really do hope they get into the play-offs, but I will be doing my damndest to see we beat them.

"We have just come off the back of a midweek defeat to Charlton and it hurt.

"Now we need to hit back against Cardiff, especially as we are at home."

Dave Jones, Manager of the Month for January said of today's game

"We are going to Stoke full of confidence and to try and get three points.

"They are a force at home and play to their strengths. They have some big lads and will use that.

"They have a style of play we have to compete with, like a lad (Rory Delap) who can launch a ball from a throw-in like a missile. We have to cope with that.

"They score from a lot of set-plays and they can be physical, but then again so can we."
