Darren Carter was lined up during the summer for a potential season long loan at Ninian Park from Birmingham City.

That never came off and earlier this season he joined Sunderland on a 3 month loan.

Today Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has recalled Carter early from the loan spell after impressing for the Black Cats.

"His loan deal is up next weekend but with the injury to Muzzy Izzet we just feel that he's better off with us," said Steve Bruce.

Sunderland will also be without Steve Caldwell who was sent off in thier 2 - 0 defeat at home to West Ham on the weekend.

Mick McCarthy was less than impressed with referee as were the Sunderland fans, they boo'ed the official after the game and then McCarthy said afterwards

"I have been told that the referee went into the West Ham dressing room before the game to get a book signed by Teddy Sheringham and I find that really pleasing.

"I'm not saying that had any bearing on any of the decisions. But I think it is beneath contempt. We play on a fair playing field - we look for fairness in all aspects - and I don't like it. I don't want anybody coming into our dressing room asking for autographs before a game. I'm not happy about it."
