Super Cala.... Juan scores City winner

Juan Cala struck in the 65th minute to earn a massive away win for Cardiff City. It was only a second win away from home this season and came out of the blue, literally, with City not expected to get anything from a Southampton side that had scored eight goals in their last two home games.

Cardiff had never won at St Marys and had not beaten Southampton on the South coast since 1962. The victory, coupled with Norwich losing at Fulham and WBA again conceeding an injury time goal to only draw means City are right back in the mix for survival.

I was harshly critical last week and saw no poissible hope that City could survive. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has delivered a result though that offers a belief that Cardiff can stay up.

Cala's goal, a sweet srike from 18 yards came in a performance that saw more grit from the Bluebirds and for once the side defended their lead and saw out the match.

Once again David Marshall performed heroics to keep a clean sheet with two stunning second half saves as Southampton chased an equaliser.

Next Saturday Cardiff face Stoke City at Cardiff City Stadium. On paper it looks the easist of the fixtures involving the bottom sides with Norwich at Man Utd, Fulham at Spurs, Sunderland at Man City and Chelsea inside 4 days and West Brom at Man City.

After failing to step up to the plate v West Ham, Hull and Palace in the South Wales capital, can Cardiff do it against Stoke and set up a dramatic end to the season.
