Testing times for Dave Jones and the City faithful

So Earnie went, Kav went, Thorne has gone today. Gabbidon and Collins looks set to be next with a jump up to the Premiership with West Ham.

These players must have something about them, apart from Thorne they are international players. Four of the five will be playing Premiership football next season, the 5th playing for a team considered one of the favourites to go back up again.

So why did Cardiff City only just avoid relegation?

Under performing players or poor management? Whatever happened to the emsemble of expensive high salaried players that failed to deliver last year it will be a different Cardif City that run out onto the field on August 6th.

What ever team Dave Jones has it will only have to avoid releagtion to match what last years team did.

I have confidence that in Dave Jones we have a decent manager who knows exactly the situation we are in. He cannot "buy" success like we did under Alan Cork and to an extent Lennie Lawrence. Jones has put his reputation on the line, I believe he will create a team of workers that will make an impact in the Championship.

OK they may not be a selection of Internationals (although his first signing is a current Northern Ireland player) but I think we will see a group of hard working players who will play for their manager and could surprise a few people.

Maybe a chance for the likes of Andy Campbell to re-start their careers here (I said maybe, you never know it might be what he needs). Maybe we will bring through some more youngsters, Joe Ledley came through last season and is nudging towards the Wales squad. Cameron Jerome has turned heads with his performances.

We have to face it that the sleeping giant bubble has burst and we are now a team looking to survive in the Championship, I think initially anything better than lower mid table would be a bonus. Forget delusions of grandeur. We are not the biggest team in the world but we can make our mark in this division.

As fans I appreciate it's difficult to have any faith in the hierarchy at the club after several broken promises but as for the manager and the team I think they need a chance.

We are where we are. In debt. Therefore cuts need to be made. Whether the board can see us through this remains to be seen but we still support our team.

Thanks Earnie, Kav, Thorney, Vidmar and the rest. We will probably say farewell me old china's when Gabbs and James Collins head to the Far East of London.

The Dave Jones years start now. It's still Cardiff City, our club.
